Old Lane Mill: A Piece of Industrial History

Old Lane Mill is a Grade II* listed former textile mill in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. It is one of the oldest and largest surviving examples of a multi-storey, steam-powered, iron-framed textile mill in the country.

The mill was built in 1825 by James Akroyd, a wealthy worsted manufacturer. It was one of the first mills in the area to be powered by steam, and it quickly became one of the most successful. The mill employed over 1,000 workers at its peak, and it played a major role in the development of the textile industry in Halifax.

Old Lane Mill continued to operate until the 1970s, when it was closed down. The mill has been empty ever since, and it has fallen into a state of disrepair. However, there are plans to renovate the mill and turn it into a mixed-use development, including apartments, offices, and a hotel.

The mill is a significant piece of industrial heritage, and it is a reminder of the important role that Halifax played in the Industrial Revolution. The mill is also a reminder of the hard work and dedication of the people who worked there.
