Jonno's Field: A Hidden Gem in Scarborough
Jonno's Field is a small nature reserve in Scarborough, England. It is located on the eastern side of the town, just north of the A171 Scalby Road. The field is owned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and is managed by volunteers.
Jonno's Field is a haven for wildlife. It is home to a variety of birds, including songbirds, waders, and raptors. There are also mammals, such as rabbits, foxes, and badgers. The field is also home to a variety of plants, including wildflowers, grasses, and trees.
Jonno's Field is a popular spot for birdwatching and nature walks. There are several footpaths that wind through the field, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The field is also a great place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.
In 2015, a series of eight carved wooden heads were installed on Jonno's Field. The heads are all different sizes and shapes, and they are all carved in the style of the Moai statues of Easter Island. The statues were created by local artist, David Shepherd, and they have since become a popular tourist attraction.
The statues are a symbol of the connection between Scarborough and Easter Island. Scarborough is a port city that has a long history of trade with the Pacific Islands. In the 18th century, Scarborough was a popular destination for sailors who were returning from voyages to the Pacific. Many of these sailors brought back souvenirs from their travels, including Moai statues.
The statues on Jonno's Field are a reminder of this history and of the cultural connections between Scarborough and Easter Island. They are also a beautiful and unique addition to the Scarborough landscape.
If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to enjoy the outdoors, then Jonno's Field is the perfect place for you. The field is home to a variety of wildlife, and it is a great place for birdwatching and nature walks. The statues on Jonno's Field are also a unique and interesting addition to the landscape. So why not take a walk through Jonno's Field today and see for yourself?
